What is coaching, and do I want it?
Choices. The vast landscape of where we can go our careers can sometimes be confusing, formidable, daunting.
Everybody also has an internal landscape which they have mapped to a greater or lesser extent, or not at all.
Coaching is an opportunity for you to explore both those landscapes, to mould them to suit you and to figure out where you want to go in them. The coach stands next to you in the landscape, blindfolded (because it’s your landscape) and asks you to describe where you want to get to and how you are going to get there.Coaching is not psychotherapy, though it shares the same approach of listening and asking questions. The job of the coach is to give you their undivided, non-judgemental, supportive but challenging attention.
Not every coach is good for everyone. You may want to talk to several coaches before deciding which one is right for you.
Here are some of the reasons my clients have come to me for coaching:
· I want to decide what to do next in my career.
· I want to be more effective in my current or new role.
· There’s a specific issue that I want to address.
· I want to decide what to prioritise next.
· There’s an issue that I want to get my head around.
